I am new to auto restoration and I'm using this Mid America Designs version of GM's Assembly Book on a 1973 Corvette Coupe. It describes GM part numbers, but what are they exactly?
For example, in this diagram:
[IMG][/IMG]
...they have #8 labeled "3820342, BOLT".
How can I find #3820342's size, length, diameter, etc?
This project was obtained in parts. Lots of parts. A pickup bed (and front passenger's seat) load of parts. I want to assemble this car correctly, and knowing which bolt goes where is obviously necessary.
Any help in finding a description index will be really welcomed. Thanks in advance.
#3820342
6.509 - 63-82
Bolt, Steering Gear to Frame 3/8" - 24x4.5
Round head Sq neck
Just 55 cents in 1982
Easily found in the 53-82 Corvette Parts and Illustration Catalog.
You can probably find an electronic copy somewhere on the web.
I'm still working from the paper copy.

Here's another option.... http://www.gmpartswiki.com/
Click on the "Search" button in the upper left hand corner...next page, put in your part number and select filter criteria as appropriate.
This sounds familiar, I dragged my 71 home on a trailer with the bed of the truck full of boxes of parts. Some correct for my year but most not. Its been a adventure collecting and correcting the parts.

Yep.
I have two versions; the hard copy paper shown (about 900 pages) and a version on CD. I can find things quicker in the hard copy, but the CD version is also handy.
Purchase an edition after the model year of your car. As an example, the June 82 edition shown covers my 80 and my 68.
Cavu2u, Please be aware and learn about bolt hardness for a specific application. Fasteners have different strengths. Most car bolts for C-3's are either grade 5 or for suspension items, grade 8. Hope that this helps you. Lou.
Check with some of the vendors along the left; some of them carry the catalogues. You can also find them on eBay. They sometimes pop up in the Parts For Sale Forum here.
