Default 1971 rear window storage tray

Anyone have pics of how the styrofoam inserts are supposed to be positioned? What should be used to attach them to the tray? Thanks for any help provided...

I believe the two Styrofoam wedges are used in the rear storage compartment corners for the carpeting to lay up against and be glued to?

Hi TW,
These is the only styrofoam back there that I know of.
Are these what you're asking about? They're actually 'filler' pieces in the back corners of the compartment as ES describes.
They're slightly different right to left.
Regards,
Alan

Whoops.... Photobucket is doing maintenance, I'll post the pictures when I can.

Default Rear window tray

Bought 1971 in August, my first Vette. My bad calling what I found in the tray ...styrofoam...actually they're more of a foam product. Someone mentioned carpet...didn't find any. If carpet does belong in there, top...bottom...or both? Thanks...

The pic looks like the battery compartment door seal (if there's enough to go around the perimeter).

Not sure if the foam you have is the original seal or something else, but my one-owner '70 has the seal. See '70 AIM, page 90, p/n 3918669.

I'd say someone just put some foam in to either protect the window from being scratched or stop a rattle when the tray was empty.

So, is there carpet or something in the tray to protect window while it is in the tray? Nothing in the battery box, except the battery...are these foam strips (shown in previous post) supposed to surround the battery? Or the previous owners attempt to minimize rattles from empty tray? Thanks for responses so far...

Hi,
I'm thinking the same as Mooser... looks like an owner inspired addition.

Alan

Those are foam strips from that great auto parts store Home Depot! I looks like window seal. Comes in rolls and is sticky on one side.

The battery compartment should have a foam seal around the lid (to prevent fumes from entering the drivers compartment
Here's a picture showing the foam around the well

Not from the factory or even normally required, I did put a thin felt like material in my tray to help prevent scratches on the window frame

You can kind of see it in this picture

Thanks to all who took time to help with answers. Looks like I need to get a seal for battery compartment, also hold down bracket. Do any vendors offer protective case for rear window like they do for t-tops, when it is in the storage tray?
