So it finally happened! Thanks to a great gentleman and Corvette Forum member, Steve S., who read my WTB ad and contacted me privately, I am now the proud owner of a 76 L48 coupe with a year correct L82 motor and Munsie close ratio 4 speed!
It's white with red leather interior and runs like a champ due to a thorough top-en rebuild that PO Steve had done within the last year or so. Valve job, slightly hotter cam (sounds great), lifters and even a new carb! Also replaced recently were calipers all around and a new master cylinder.
It a ravishing beauty at 20 feet, and down right respectable close up.
Steve owned this car since 2006 after the wreck of his former 76 L82 (donor engine for my car) that he had owned since 1984. He originally wanted significantly more for his baby but was more interested in it going to a good home with someone who would get the same level of enjoyment that he's gotten from vettes for the past 29 years.
Incredibly he sold it to me for $3000! First time I've ever bought a car 4 states and almost 600 miles away solely based on the PO's description and photos but after communicating with Steve over a couple of week period, i was completely confident in pulling the trigger.
Thanks so much for "paying it forward" Steve! I pledge to do the same some day if i'm able.
Hi MCVD,
So! Dreams DO come true!
It looks like you've gotten a nice car at a very good price from a good person!
I hope it gives you lots of pleasure!
Good Luck!

I am glad you have the car of your dreams and it didn't cost a lot. You are truly blessed. Now if you could please pass me Steve's phone number, hopefully he has a C7 for sale.
Its a win win win situation.
Previous owner knows the car is in capable hands. You now have your dream car ( great corvette colors ), and the vette is happy to be in a new home with a caring owner.
