Default 72 body mounts

I'm in the middle of doing a frame off restore and I'm nearing the point where I put my body back on the frame. I plan to use polly mounts, but the question has came to mind "are my bumper brackets going to line up"?

Is there any thing else I should be concerned with when going to a thicker mount?

My project came with previously upgraded mounts, but it also had the wrong front clip and damaged rear bumper brackets.

Thank You,
Mitch

In my opinion, poly would be third on my list of body mount choices. There is a possible benefit of going to rubber (isolation and vibration. I say "possible' because it's often debated) and by staying with aluminum you won't have to put effort into realigning items like bumpers, radiator frames, steering shaft... Poly offers neither benefit.

Having said the above, it has certainly be done before. Nothing on these cars is so finely engineered that a fraction of an inch will prevent it from going together.

Hi Mitch,
The body will be about 3/8" higher above the frame with rubber bushings used on the frame mounts designed for the aluminum 'pucks'.
The things like the bumper brackets will be able to be adjusted that much.

Alan

Thank you, I have never seen an aluminum mount, I had envisioned them much thinner.

Hi b,
Here's a typical aluminum puck on my 71.

I used poly on my 72 and had no trouble lining things back up. Went back together fairly easily.

Fortunately for us, the lack of robots and precision assembly techniques when these cars were built resulted in many elongated holes to aid in assembly. If you find a hole that doesn't line up in a bracket, just grind it out a little to make things fit.

I used solid aluminum body mounts on my 72. I haven't ridden in a C3 with rubber mounts so I couldn't comment on the difference between them.

I replaced the aluminum pucks on my '71 with '73-up rubber and noticed a significant improvement in ride quality. Especially when changing lanes and going over reflector bumps.

I used poly on my 69 with no problems. I will be using them on my 72 I'm doing right now. I do have a set of rubber mounts for sale if you need them.
