I have found a set of 1971 original seats in very good condition but I am shooting for flight judging and wonder if they are the same as a 73 or would there be a deduction for them? These seats are the same interior as my 73.
Thanks
Scott
I'm thinking that your '73 seats incorporate a sensor from weight in the seat that activates the dash seat belt light which first began with the '72 model year interiors. The '71 seats do not use that system.

Hmmm! Bummer if that is the case, these seats are nice (cushions and covers) and cheap.
Thanks

Nope. Not the same color. The '71 blue is "Medium Blue" and has just a touch of green in it. The '73 is a darker blue and is a true blue color. But, they still appear to be the same ComfortWeave material and the seams are all the same.
You could (and probably should) recolor those seats if you buy them. That requires cleaning the surface well and spraying a couple of coats of SEM ColorCoat vinyl dye which can be mixed to the '73 cars interior color.

I may end up having to dye the whole interior to get it all to match but I am concerned about the seatbelt slots now. I am not sure that cane overcome without tearing the seat up in which I would be better off buy actual 73 seat covers. What say you guys? I haven't worked on any interior so far in a Vette yet so not sure...
Thanks
Scott
Other than condition, I don't see what you gain by swapping in the 71 seats. Assembly manuals show how the upholestery was cut to accomodate the shoulder belts.
If judging is in the future, keep your seats and have them reupholstered.
One other difference ( I'm pretty sure). All 73 coupes and a few hundred verbs came with shoulder belts. These passed through a slot on the back of the seat. I don't think that 71s came with the shoulder belt pass through.

If your '73 seats don't have pass throughs for the shoulder belts, they're not original to the car.
Paul74 converted his '74 convertible seats to pass throughs, ask him what was required.
Since the '71 seats are the wrong colour, not much point pursuing that option.

The convertibles at that time did not come with the shoulder belts (RPO A84, custom shoulder belts). In 1974 there were 5,474 convertibles produced and only 618 came with that option. Mine did not so I added them.
Thanks for the help guys! The reason I initially looked at them was to save money I they worked but I don't think it's an option...I figured if I could get them for $200-$300 for the set it was cheaper than new cushions and covers.
Sorry for the hijack, but..
On my'73 project, the car came with some aftermarket race seats. Tossed those and bought some C3 seats that didn't have the thru slots for the belts.
I'd like to know where you got the seat back slots Paul. I think I can open the solid front trim piece.
