I was double checking gear ratio, checked POP, checked the stamping on the differential housing and then following others advice since it could be changed internally jacked up the rear end and put it on jack stands and marked the tire and tried to rotate the tire and count drive shaft rotations. Automatic was in neutral.
I could turn it about 1/2 turn at the wheel then could not turn it any more by hand, could turn back the other direction about the same, starts turning with a little pressure and gets harder as you go until it stops (both directions) almost like it is in park but it is not.
My next thought is disconnect the drive shaft and see it is diff or transmission and if it still does it disconnect 1/2 shafts but before I do wanted to get other peoples thoughts.
