Default 74 Engine Compartment

I am restoring a 74 corvette, I repainted it last winter and it came out great! I am detailing the engine compartment and want to get it looking original. The black on the back of the hood in particular. The car was repainted before so I'm not sure if the masking is original. Looking for pictures of the back of the hood from an original 74. Thanks!

Google can be a crapshoot when it comes to details. You may find pictures of the backs of hoods, but who says they are correct?

If you do not have a definitive picture by this evening, I'll snap a picture of my original paint '75 hood. Masking should have been the same.

Here are a few pictures. You can see the blackout was done pretty sloppily. The lines are not very straight and there are many misses. Let me know if you would like a specific area of the hood.

Thank you that helps. I think mine was pretty original then. Don't think they were real precise about it. Almost looked like they just used a piece of cardboard to mask it. Thanks again! Bob

Semi-flat or satin black trim paint was used for 'blackout' paint....used for all engine compartment surfaces so treated.

Nope.

Mask, yes. Don't know that it was cardboard since it was used repeatedly.
