Hi Ballen,
The differential case was natural cast iron. If you leave it natural it will quickly get a rusty surface. Some people put flat clear on it to stop that rust, while some paint it with a paint called Cast Blast.
The half shafts have an extruded steel tube and forged ends. The tubes were quite a bright silver, but developed some rust rapidly. The finish on the ends is similar to the differential case. The tubes exhibit a darken weld area were the tubes were welded to the forged ends.
The leaf spring was coated with a type of paint and were light gray. The leaf liners were black and the bearing cups plated or natural.
The struts were forged and left natural and could be treated similar to the differential housing.
Regards,
Alan

Alan is on target as usual... here is a picture of a NCRS restored rear suspension.. it's a 63 but it's the same finish as your car.

NCRS Judging Guides list original finishes. If you're interested, go here: http://www.ncrs.org/

If your car will be judged at NCRS events, follow their guidelines. If you just want the car to "look" original, get creative with different types of paint or coatings to replicated the look....but DON'T leave any bare metal showing.
