The "wires" are the fiber optics. Do not cut them whatever you do. You can see the three locations for them on the shift console , left tail lamp, license plate and right tail lamp.
It apperars that the car is a hybread and by viewing the interior it would be possible to really identify the year as there is not two identical interiors between the years and expensive to replace....I would also say that 'Red is not the OE color
A possible canidate to treat it any way you desire to change or customize if thats a option for you....and it looks like a very solid Vette....lets hope you bought it right because ot the obvious changes....

Acid: order the 1968 assembly instruction manual and the GM chassis service manual. Order a 1968 owner's manual if you do not have an original.

Brandons72vette, All 68's have the fiber optics. They are a wonderful safety device to have. I was out at dusk this year and realized that I had no brake or tail lights on my 68. Talk about scary! I added the extra two tail light fiber optics to my coupe, since only 68's have all four tail lights light up. My turn signal switch had broken and Willcox helped me fix it. Only 68-71 corvettes have the fiber optic monitors. Lou.
Are you planing to try to go back to original or just to make it a driver and customize as you like?

Not sure yet. Either way, it will be a driver. I just couldn't bring myself to breath new life into it and not enjoy it by taking it out and winding it up!
Windshield is out! What a tough job. I can't believe how well that baby was in there! Guitar wire and a thin putty knife worked well.
I actually broke one of the guitar wires and noticed that the butyl was smoking!
Suspicion confirmed. I have a decent hole at the bottom of the left A-pillar on the top. Going to go over it with a wire wheel and determine next steps tomorrow.
The cage at the bottom has some surface rust, but has not been compromised.
Vin shows its within the last 200 built for the 68 model year
Our cars are just a few days apart in age! I always think it's fun seeing cars that could have been parked on the same lot ready to ship out to the dealerships still around after almost 50 years. Good luck on your restore. It looks like you have a lot less to do than I do.
Everything loks like you are moving along. I am doing my 69 body off. Tuff working when its so cold. Frame looks pretty good. I was not so lucky. Fixing frame as we speak. keep the pic coming.

I haven't gotten a great look yet as to the condition of the frame on my beast yet. I'm fairly certain that I will need to do a frame off on her to make sure she lasts the next 50 years. The good news is I have more than a few corvette frames kicking around our garage including a brand new one from I believe '73. Not sure the differences between the frames on different years but I'm sure worst case I can come up with one that will work if my frame is too far gone.
I'm not looking forward to working on it during the winter months but I've got a nice large garage to do the work in along with some kerosene heaters if needed. But having to go 50 miles round trip to work on it will really cut into restoration time. I'll probably have to mainly work on it there on weekends and bring components to work on at home back and forth with me.
Great to see a another 68 getting the attentio it deserves. I have had to put mine on the back burner for now. a few years ago I tried to get all the 68 owners to join a social group here on the forum. Anyone who hasnt joined check it out. There are nearly 100 68 owners currently in the group.
I also like the dollie. It looks very similar to mine. I need to work on the body and thought making it a little taller would allow me to get under the dollie, good job.

So I decided to go with a full VB&P suspension upgrade, including C5 Brakes. New front corner with 13" rotors!
