I made the purchase, but wanted some feedback. Here are body and interior pics. Frame is is good condition, no rust. It is a numbers matching vehicle. I have located the block, right & left exhaust, and intake numbers. The only question mark with the numbers is that the block is for an early 1972, but the exhaust is for a late 1972.
Hi tb,
It looks like you've found a nice looking car there!
Good Luck with it!
The answers to your questions about numbers depends on the assembly date of the engine stamped on it's pad and then on the numbers and casting dates on the block, exhaust manifolds, and intake manifold you mention compared to the cars build date.
The casting dates on the parts need to be before the date the engine was assembled, and then the engine assembly date needs to be before the car was assembled in St.Louis. Generally dates not exceeding 6 months before the car's build date are acceptable.
Again, NICE looking 72!
Regards,
Alan

??? There was no change in block numbers in '72. Only the right hand side exhaust manifold changed p/n in '72. Left side was the same for many years
Mike, I found data that shows the block # for an early 72 is 3970010 and for a late 72 is 3970014. My block is 3970010 and I have the same number on both right and left exhaust manifolds.

The 0010 block is found throughout the production year whereas the 0014 has only been seen on late '72 and early '73s.
The 0010 block was produced from '69 through '80 in the multiple of millions at all three GM engine plants, probably the most common engine ever made by GM.
Your car having an 0010 block and 461 exhaust manifolds make perfect sense.
