Default Gas cap cover

Can anyone tell me why there is a screw hole in the cover? Is there something missing here?

there should be no hole (but could depend on the model year?)

Isn't this the filler door for a 68-72 model? If not, do you have a pic of the correct filler door?

definitely not gm, but a guess would be that a po had installed an extra clip to hold the gas cap down rather than doing a proper repair. look for another hole where the other half of the clip may have been mounted.
the real question is: how are you going to fix this? strip the paint, braze the hole, bondo, fiberglass, or epoxy and repaint. or just get a fancy chrome screw to plug the hole?

True about the fix. Since the paint is in good condition, I may go with a chrome screw. Looks like a locking gas cap.

No. Have you contacted the previous owner to ask?

No. C3 fuel doors do not lock and had no external hardware from the factory.

The PO probably had some personalized emblem mounted there....and took it off before you bought the car. Either that, or he keeps his pet snake in the rubber boot around the neck and needed an 'air hole'. {That would be a good deterrent for gas thieves!}

Okay thanks for the feedback. I guess I need a chrome "LINDA" to put there for my wife.

That's to remind you every time you fill it up with gas that you are getting "screwed".
