That will definitely make it look perfect. But remember, these guys were operating fairly quickly, and as you can see from many of the pictures above they were not very concerned with it being centered within the clear sticker.

Nothing is wrong with it being perfect, because I am sure they did get it absolutely perfect some times, just don't be overly concerned with it.

Message sent to ya!

Give your body guy the bill. He should pay for your replacement.

Label still on my countertop.

Going to try to make an attempt at it later.

As long as it doesn't look like a doofus applied it, then I should be okay. ie. putting on plastic border first with blue label on top of it.

Default Okay here goes!

Wish me luck!

My goal is not to fall victim to a DOOFUS APPLICATION.....

Objective. Place sticker in the general area. I looked at the original placement as posted in this thread. Looks like the plastic cover is slightly off in terms of centering on the blue sticker.

Doing my best to emulate this!

Here goes nothing!!!!!! Here is the before:

It looks like the style of the numbers is wrong compared to the original. The replacement numbers are straight and the original numbers have more curves, easy to spot on the 3 and 7. I had bought a label from a different vendor and the font was also incorrect.

Once you have an original and compare to fake its obvious .

Also......the fakes all seem to be very dark ink . About four shades too dark.....the digits used that computer type used on build sheets , I haven't seen a repro that had the correct fonts

To me most repro sticker just don't cut it ......especially the air cleaner cover stickers and the poorly done emission repro stickers.

Colors of ink, spacing of letters and numbers , what have you.......the repros get all the info on the sticker ...but the placement and lines and such is all off ......most look really poor when you hold them next to,an original.

Most of the classic cars that I have owned in my life did not have such huge aftermarket support as the vette and some others have. In a way I guess it was the thrill of hunting down that one certain part or coming across that nos moulding or handle or this or that. And it's very gratifying when you put that certain part on your car. I was for years and in some ways very critical of the guy who shows up to a cruise or a show in a chevelle for example and the car looks good but its nothing but a parts catalog on wheels. Never impressed me.
So how do I feel now that I own one of those cars? I really can't explain it but It seems different to me when its a Vette. Stupid I know.
Let the flogging begin.

I have to agree with persuader . I am more in to restore or refurbish rather than replace with reproduced
half the enjoyment of my current project is hunting parts . try finding stainless trim for an Edsel. no catalog to pick up and order from.
with a lot of cars these days . if you have a title you can build one from the ground up.

We are talking about a blue sticker that literary costs pennies to make. We are not restoring a car in this thread.

Thank you!

Just as you said earlier in the thread, what other options are there if you no longer have the original?

Do nothing? And leave the door naked? Ughhhhh. I totally didn't like it without the sticker. Now I have one. It's funny how there is a debate in this thread about how it looks compared to the original and going over every little detail. But, I see their point, but it really is just a label worth a few cents.

I would be a GAZILLION times more concerned about a restamped 454 engine block and trying to pass it off as original. Simply put I do not care that the label is not original. Nor would I even THINK to tell anyone that it was original. Actually, me having this thread shows that I have ZERO intention of passing it as original. It is all about beauty being in the eye of the beholder. It looks good there!

I have yet to meet someone start a thread saying, "LOOK AT MY NEW ENGINE STAMP on my motor I got from another car. It LOOKS almost REAL. My buddy at the shop did it for me for only $2500 bucks!!!!"

Yeah, to each his own, I suppose. When I stripped my '69 for paint, the original label was not salvagable. However, I peeled it off and saved it in a plastic sleeve (because I'm insane). I suppose if someone wants to accuse me of some sort of fraud because I replaced it with a nice pretty new one to go with my brand new paint, they are welcome to.

I also think after a complete restoration of the engine compartment, not replacing the air cleaner sticker or emission sticker or radiator markings looks unfinished. Other are free to disagree. It's pure cosmetics and nothing more.

You can't be insane......

An insane person would have used superglue to reattach the label!

I think my post was misunderstood. My corvette is the first classic Car I have owned that you can buy every nut and bolt for. I Guess it is something I am not used to. That said. I would put one of those blue labels on the door of my car, Hell, I will have to since I plan a color change anyways.
Very nice engine bay Vettebuyer.
