Since this isnt CFOT I'll give the guy a break
AIM= Assembly Instruction Manual
It's the manual that the assembly line workers consulted when putting these cars together
I have one in a big three ring binder, it has notes from the production run and has once really helped me.
It has on several other occasions sent me down a rabbit hole that had no end.
I answer PM's. I also send them and 99.9% of the time get a prompt reply. Good bunch here.
I also have and use an AIM for each year of Corvette that I have/had. I didn't use it as much until I went to a restoration shop and the guy working on a particular car had one set up on a simple podium beside the vehicle. By the dirty fingerprints on it I could tell he referred to it often. If an experienced builder uses one that often, then they must have value.
I always do, and as above, 99% of people I send them to respond as well.
I've found the Corvette-related stuff here is always eagerly discussed by members.
But, I'm going to say (don't be shocked by this), the OT section is an unbelievable source of helpful people. Don't believe it? Over the years I've obtained great help and input in fixing computers a couple times, doing household tasks I've never tried, found a guy 1000 miles away who offered to hold a car I was buying overnight in his driveway for me, found a graphic designer who did work on my last book just for the credits, and on and on and on.
I have yet to come across a problem or a new challenge that someone over there couldn't help with. Yes, you will get 5 crazy responses along the way, but PMing someone in OT for some help is an undeveloped gold mine.
I have always replied to the few PM's that I receive. As someone stated, it is an honor to be asked. By the way, I have a 1968 and 1969 original first copy of the AIM's brought out by Mid America Enterprises, now Mid America Designs. They have a very nice table of contents as the first page! Also every page has at the top, Chevrolet drafting graphic.
The new addition of the 68 AIM that I purchased does not have a table of contents that I know of and the numbers do not jive with my original ones on the 68...strange indeed! Lou.
But, I'm going to say (don't be shocked by this), the OT section is an unbelievable source of helpful people.
... and on and on and on.
...
Maybe I'm surprised because of the individuals in OT who are the least friendly. I AM happy to read that they may be the minority, after all.
I am aware that CFOT PR&C can singe your tail feathers if they are not ceramic coated to withstand the heat. That's an interesting place to visit but they are least kind, to many noobs.
Back to PM's: I always respond. For the reasons mentioned. Been very fortunate to meet some nice folks who are members here.
Recieving PM's after I completed my build caused me to reconsider joining CF to gain more disc space. It's been some of the best money I ever spent to have a greater ability to communicate with all of our friends here.
