Default hood release

hello, can anyone tell me if they make a tool that will unlock the hood release on the c3 vets. my 75 coupe hood release latch cable broke when I tried to open the hood. the hood is now locked down. I know of the small hole in the firewall by the windshield arm on the drivers side which is suppose to let you have access to the latch. is there a certain tool used to do this or the plain and simple screw driver will do. thanks scott

Hi sc,
I don't know about a tool intended for use on cars after 72.
Here's the tool for earlier cars.
I'd think if you made the reach longer it MIGHT work???
Regards,
Alan

These are from the 71 Chassis Service Manual. There's likely something similar in the 75 CSM. Do you have a copy?

hey Alan thanks for the reply. unfortunately when I purchased the car it came with no manuals and I have been stupid in not getting manuals on my own. on the 75 coupe I don't think I can get it that way so I will have to try the long screwdriver method

again thanks for the reply

scott

Over the years I have had too many hood latch cables end up in my hand after the cable broke. Once you do get access to get it open, I suggest you connect a coated cable to each side and hide it in the cowl. this will insure that it will never break again, but will give you peace of mind..

I used a 1/4" steel rod apprx two feet long, bent it to fit through the latch hole and away from the windshield. Works great. I also carry it with me when I travel. Once you get the hood open, fine tune your latch tool and notice where the hole is - for next time.

I use a long screwdriver or a 3/8 extension.
