looking for ease of install. looking at set of SS shorty headers, any idea of how close that match up with the same location for the exhaust outlet as the stock ram horn manifolds as on a 69 SBC. also when installing headers what has been done for the alt mounting since you loose the solid mount at the exhaust manifold? next how about the air compressor mounting, just make up spacers to take up the thickness of the manifold? thanks T

Dunno how close they line up with the old pipe, I kind of doubt they do. When I put mine in I built a whole new system. As to the mount brackets for the Alt, Comp etc, Then Yes making up spacers to stabilize those items is the way to go.

Unless you go with the headers above, you will have to splice the pipes to the new shorty headers.
For the Alt. bracket, find the style used by the later C-3 that bolts to the head.
Can't say what needs to happen with the AC as I did not have to deal with that.

I doubt that any set of headers will connect to a stock exhaust system...You will probably need a muffler shop bend some new exhaust pipes....
On the subject of the alternator bracket, there's a forum member that made some terrific brackets that might even work with a AC compressor...It can also be used on either side

nice job on the valve covers and good idea for the alt brkt. thanks T
mcjacks has the headers that you want .But you have to have the cash .you can buy long tube headers from summit then have new pipes put on cheaper. All depends on your pocket book .

No hassel, direct replacement bolt ons, but way too much money. Mostly window dressing..........
I just replaced the entire exhaust system on my car, everything except the mufflers, brand new, long tube, brand name headers, custom fabricated pipes all the way back. Total cost was less than what I paid for the McJack's.

Yes. Jegs/Summit/Etc. can get you stainless headers if price is an issue.
Suggestion: A quality muffler shop could install a new exhaust system (if your present pipes/mufflers are shot) onto the Jegs/etc. headers for around the same price as those great-looking-plug-n-play headers shown in the pics.......or just let them adapt the S.S. headers to your current exhaust system.

What brand of headers are those ?
Looks like you have a spacer between headers and cylinder head ?
I like those 69 valve covers, do you know if roller rockers will fit underneath them ?
Cheers.
On the second go around for headers I went with Summit Patriot Ceramic Coated Short Tubes. Dropped in just fine but I still needed to go with a Reduced Gear Starter and clock it to 6:00 to avoid the heat.
Don't the 80-82s have factory stainless shorty headers? A set of those would work and not have a problem hooking up to a factory exhaust.
Someone correct me if I am wrong.

they may work but they are small tube and do not flow that well.
Thanks Karsten, that's the compressor that I upgraded to on my 69. Did you have any belt alignment issues. I had tons of trouble but finally got it right. I'll check out that Hooker A/C mount. T
You should take a look at the Sanderson Block Huggers. I fitted a pair to my '74 and while I think they would hook up to a stock exhaust system, I made up my own pipes out of 90 and 45 degree mandrel bent tubing so that the engine pipe did not run under the filter on the driver's side. It "kinks" outward so that the filter can drop straight down between the engine block and exhaust pipe. I did a similar thing on the passenger side so that the engine pipe is not sitting directly under the starter motor.
I joined them up to the standard exhaust pipe before it goes through the cross member. So far, so good. Oh, I also used Stage 8 header bolts on the Sandersons and have never had to touch them since installation. They do exactly as the company promises.
