More details about the car maybe helpful if known. Something like coupe/convertible, color, options, last known place it was sold, etc.

You might want to say why you are looking for that particular car with that VIN . Did the car belong to you and it got stolen or is it just a car that you previously owned . If someone owns that car now and reads this he might hesitate to admit it for fear that you are coming to collect .
If someone owns it and was thinking about selling it anyway and you just want to buy it back I'm sure he would like to see you get it back. Good luck either way .

I don't think that's a valid vin because they didn't make that many vettes in '68 or the first '4' should be a '1'.

It is. All 68's had the "4" and then the numeric sequence. You are correct though that this sequence starts with "1".

It's a consecutive unit number. #10941 out of a total of 28566 produced.
#10941 was assembled in early February, 1968.
