Default Steering problem

I had to replace my ignition cylinder and when I went to start reassembling my shaft slides all the way out of the column. How do I push the shaft lock and canceling cam back on to get the lock ring in place? It is a 74 with TT and manual. Thanks!

Get a bolt that will thread into the column. Pull the upper shaft up until it's the length you need and tighten a bolt in the center. Some lock plate compressors have an end on them that is just for that purpose.

Thanks Tim but it's not the compressor that's the problem. The steering tele shaft comes all the way out of the steering column now with the key on the end. I had threaded the compressor to it to compress to remove. Now that the shaft comes out I don't have a stop for the compressor to work and I wonder what I did for the shaft to now slide out?
