New member and got a question, Bought a 1973 l-82 conv. a couple of years ago from original owner 51,000 miles. With further insp. i found the build sheet on tank, dropped the tank and removed build sheet and did a complete cleaning of underside found no damage to car whatsoever. So heres my question. I removed the tail lenses for cleaning and found they are all dated including the housings 1971, is it possible the factory installed the wrong ones? Or just used leftovers!
Hi j,
Not positive, but I'd think you're fine.
Lenses often have a date molded into them that indicates when they were first used.
For instance 70-72 cars all have side marker light lenses with 1970 molded into them.
The change in taillight lenses occurred when the lenses went from having 'conical' shaped centers, to 'round' centers, in about mid production, (8000), 71.

Alan
Thanks Guys for the reply, I checked the tail light lenses and they are stamped, Guide19 SAE STI 71
I also checked the side markers and they are stamped SAE ARI 70 RR On the Right Rear hense the RR and SAE ARI 70 LR on the left rear.
So in other words you think these were installed this way at the factory?
