If it is a solid color and you don't have any 'spider' cracking in it (just dings/nicks/scratches), you can really improve your present paint condition with a good-matching, quality touch-up paint and some careful repair work. If you have a metallic paint, it will be more difficult to find a touch-up paint that blends well...but it can be done.
I did just that with the nearly 20 year-old repaint on my car when I bought it. That changed the car froma "20 footer" to a "3 footer". If you get really, really close you can see the repair spots. But, get more than 5 feet away and you can't even spot them.
One of these years, I MIGHT get it repainted. But, for now with a 'driver' car that still sees 2-3K miles per year, I would rather enjoy the car (as good as I can make it) than worry about damaging an expensive new paint job every time I want to drive it.

P.S. If you want some tips on making small paint repairs, send me a PM.
