Default Exhaust Sound

I just bought a '69, 427/435. It has a nice stainless steel exhaust system, but it is very quiet. It is not side mount exhaust. I want it to sound like what a 427/435 should sound like. Any suggestions? Thanks...

Hi FN,
SUCH a problem to have!
Are you interested in an original appearing exhaust or an aftermarket exhaust?
Regards,
Alan

Be careful what you wish for.
I changed over to a "hotrod" type exhaust system, and for the first five minutes, I thought it was thrilling. After a half hour, I was tired of it. After an hour, I wanted earplugs. Now I think it's just too @#$% loud. I am considering changing it back to stock type mufflers.

I 'hear' ya.

When I was 'Vette shopping, I took a test drive in a modded '77 (the seller insisted it was a '75, but that's another story). Talk about LOUD! At first it was impressive. But, after the owner - a 50 something dude going through his second teenage rhapsody - gunned the car DOWN a steep hill (where I come from, this is stupid; ya wanna show a car's power, do it uphill), it started to get old. After 10 minutes on the freeway at 80, I was lucky to have anything left of my hearing sensitity above 5khz.

To each his own. But this ain't mine.

Did a lot of research, read a lot of comments on the forum. I went with Magnaflows-good sound but not too loud!

Depends on what you want. The Magna Flows will be a bit less throating sounding than say glass packs. You want load and free flow glass packs are the way to go.

I've had Ultraflows on for about 10 yrs and still love them. Quiet enough for a conversation on the highway and get plenty loud when I get into it and no droning. I think the Ultraflows and Magnaflows are hard to beat.

The two brands are similar but not identical in sound. I've had the SS UltraFlos on my avatar car and my '69 Vette for about 20 years. They have just the right tone and noise level for me- a sweet burble at idle and wicked when the hammer drops! The SS finish still polishes up as if it's almost new.

Well... if you're half deaf and it "pretty loud", I can only imagine what it sounds like to the rest of us.

I would put in electric operating cut outs .When you need the sound of power hit the button .But when the cops come around or you want to talk to your buddy about how great it sounds , hit the button.

I don't like loud, just a healthy sound. The N11 reproduction mufflers fit the bill for me, and have a stock look, which I also prefer. But maybe I'm a little boring.
