Hi,
My 71 spent about a year and a half being driven everyday in Maryland….. 25,000 miles, but the birdcage stayed rust free.
The frame was dirty and had surface rust but not any pitting. Non of the running gear…. a-arms, t-arms, half-shafts, springs etc. were pitted either
I know, not typical.
Regards,
Alan
Mine was an import car, lived all it's life approximately 150 miles from the border. Has sat six months of every year since new, has 142,000 kms on the odometer now. Minor surface rust, of course, but the entire car has a spotless frame, floor, windshield frame and radiator support. Not all northern cars were subjected to snow and salt every winter.
Mine spent most of its life in a garage no winters. the bird cage appears solid the only rust I found last night. Right where the front screw on the rocker trims is, the other side is rock solid. I did what any good Bubba would do longer bolt, fender washer good as new. I highly recommend Fluid Film it creeps, stays soft, and kills rust.
