If you are having a hard time finding the right material, you might try these guys. Lot's of selection. Maybe they will have something close to the factory color.
Miata was my first thought, cuz I put a pair in my 78.
They have a metal projection on the bottom, which I trimmed along with some foam, to get them lower. Cut 4 rectangular metal pieces with holes on both sides, one side bolted to seat, one to track from car. Left them loose, bolted in, and marked, then tightened everything up and installed. Through dumb luck, they fit perfect. Sits a little high with the back straight up, but when it is reclined, it fits me perfect.
Well some of you may remember this thread from a couple of years back. Well this is the latest news on my replacement seats, I have just got them back from the upholsterer this afternoon and this is the finished product,
Hi All,
I have finished installing my seats. Have a look and let me know what you think. The top panel in the headrest is comfort weave, because this is an open weave,
it will allow the sound from the speakers mounted in the head rest to be heard.
Great job, I'm a street rodder at heart. When building my 39 chevy back in early 2000 I picked up a pair of Mazda 626 6 way power seats at a corvette expo swap meet. Just removed the headrests, ( not cool in hot rods) When I had the interior done had them covered in bone leather. Took 8 hides to do the front and rear seats, headliner & trunk..
Paint is 1996 Corvette Admiral Blue also from the Grand Sport.

Doesn't look too bad.
I contemplated something like that too but since I just can't bring myself to alter the original look, I settled for getting new upholstery and Al Knoch covers for the original seats. The guy who did this (I was too lazy to do it myself) cut open the foam on the side of the seats and stuffed more material inside. You can hardly tell by the look but I was astonished how comfortable they were and how the additional padding helped to keep my butt firmly seated cutting those curves. Not comparable to a real modern seat of course, but a good compromise I make myself believe.
Hi Lowbuck,
Yeah, they sure do! I have yet to connect them up though. Maybe you can answer my question,
are there 2 speakers in each seat? That would explain the set of 4 wires if there are?
