Speaking of options, can someone tell me what this is?
It's under the hood on the passenger side. I looked in the A.I.M. but didn't see anything like that in that area. Maybe a dealer installed alarm of some kind?
It looks like a siren for an aftermarket alarm, to me.
Also, the C3 rear window defroster. Pretty rare on coupes and even more rare on convertibles, I believe. It was an electric fan, underneath the coupe and convertible deck immediately under the rear window. I think it may have had heating elements to blow warm air.
Not really an 'accessory' since it's a factory installed piece and not really rare if you live anywhere but in the south. About 7% of the cars had them in the 60s/early 70s which rose to about 75% of cars in mid and late 70s. There were no heating elements, just forced air.
O.k. tell me where it is because I have no clue either! Of course, our car is still in the shop so I haven't had a chance to crawl through it since we bought it
Its the round switch on the side of the shifter console by the drivers feet. low, off, high setting
LOL!!!! I have one of those if anyone needs one! Why you would I have no idea.
For night hunting of the ubiquitous western American jack-a-lope. Didn't everyone who had one in their pristine Corvette go off-roading to hunt them? I heard tell, that they taste just like chicken.
68 Convertible shoulder belts. I have them. I bought factory duplicate shoulder belts, and of course had my original seat belts renewed, by Snake-oyl. ($$$) To stow the shoulder belts, when not used, I have the moulded plastic...correctly color coded blur NOS retainers (pockets)that mount to the bulkhead between the driver and passenger. These 68 shoulder belt retainers are the same things that were installed on the 67's!
There were only 35 68 Convertibles sold with shoulder belts.
I have 69 seat back frames in my 68...bought on ebay. I have head rests and the shoulder belt retainer clips on the upper seat back. I don't think factory 68 shoulder belts came with the retainer clips on the seat back to position them in place. I bought the retainer clips on ebay. The head rests?...Al Knoch had just bought the original factory moulding to make the 69 head rests. I had a pair of metallic light medium blue head rests made by Al. I also bought his leather seat covers for the 68..they only approximate the webweave of the vinly seats...but still the leather is much better..IMO. The leather seats are not NCRS, but I just didn't want vinyl.

O.K. under hood on driver side wheel well in engine compartment is what looks like a siren with a fan blade on the front??????
Wires coming from it are pretty old but I hit a positive to the red wire coming from it and it sounded like a damn tornado siren and loud as hell!!!! What is that for was it just something previous owner installed or did it serve a purpose??? Its not like a police siren but a long siren like a tornado warning.

That's the factory alarm system. My 79 has the same siren as you describe. You activate it by locking your driver side door with the key (easy way to test if it works is to lock it with the key while the door is open)

Nice to know thanks!!! I always figured the alarm just went off of the horn.
The early C3's came with a speed warning option. You could set the speedometer to say, 70 mph. When you exceeded 70 mph there'd be an audible alert. It was all mechanical. When the speedo needle hit 70, it'd close a contact to set off the alarm.

I have the speed warning on mine, just had it fixed from Willcox get to test it next year when the car is done.
Back in the late 70's, early 80's? there was a company called AMtops that made these portable vinyl t top's. I believe Paul74 used to own a pair of them. Wish I could hunt them down, I like em. They probably fold in half, are light weight, and don't take up much room.

Yes, those AM tops are very nice, complete with factory hardware, unlike the Velcro versions of today. I sold the 1979 in 2003 to my younger Brother. He has them sitting in his basement somewhere.
