Default 1979 Corvette

Hello! My brothers and I want to start to restore our dads 1979 Corvette "Special Touring Edition". We would love to restore it to original, the only problem is that we not sure what was standard on this touring edition as ten years ago the original rims and tires, t-roof glass panels, front spoiler and a few of the badges were stolen from the car and insurance was never able to recover the original parts and all we got back was two t-roof panels both different color tint, the rims are not the original that we received from insurance and we never got a front spoiler or badges. Any information on the vehicle would be much, much appreciated. Also if anyone could tell me how common or rare this model is and some specs that would be amazing. Thank You!

What is causing you to think a "Special Touring Edition" is a factory "model?" Did someone tell you this? How are you identifying the car as one?

You really need to post photos.

No one actually told me anything, on the underside of the hood it says STE and around it it says special touring edition im not sure if you can see it in the picture I posted. The car also has a spoiler that's not common.

I don't believe there is anything original about that. The STE could just be something a previous owner decided to do as well as the spoiler, nothing like that came from the factory that I have ever seen or read about.

The touring edition business is either dealer add-on stuff or something a previous owner did himself. It's not something that came from the factory. The spoiler for instance was called a "turbo wing" or similar and was (and remains) available from vendors like Eckler's, etc. Some specs for 1979s generally:

Somebody put the hood insulation blanket, from an 83-86 Pontiac 6000 STE, on that car.

The Special Touring Edition, was Pontiac's performance sedan version of their 80's mid-size car line. Pontiac abbreviated the name as STE for marketing and badging.

There was never an STE version of the Corvette.

The link below has a picture of a Pontiac 6000 STE with the hood open, and clearly showing that same the STE badging on the hood insulation blanket.

Go here: http://www.corvetteactioncenter.com/...x.php?cmd=area and see if you can obtain a copy of the original dealer invoice for your Dad's 79. The dealer invoice will list all the options which were installed on the car, prices, the original dealer, date the car was completed, how it was shipped, etc.

I remember those Pontiacs but did not relate the STE badging to this Corvette. Great observation you made.
