Yeah I would like to save as much money to put towards the hobby as I can. If I give anybody else more money for random charges what do I gain from it? Nothing…I stay away from auctions and highly publicized events like this. Prime example is that chevy dealership that new classic cars and trucks that would have sold for nothing had it not been for the publicity. However the publicity ended up getting people to pay 10's of thousands to 100's of thousands that nobody would have spent normally. I mean I saw a few craigslist ads that had similar cars and the prices were higher as they saw that somebody bought a similar car for WAYYYYYY too much money. These ***** that only care about stuffing their pockets really make me mad as they are not in the hobby to be in the hobby. They are in the hobby only to use and abuse it just by buying and selling cars for high prices and most likely cheap quality. In my opinion, it must end. If we let it get out of hand, just think of what will happen in the future. …..its pretty scary to think of actually.

Back to the lady with the '59, I was like are you a restorer, have you any idea what it takes to get a car at BJ to look like that? Do you know the kind of money and time it takes? The know how, the tools, the space and the help, etc. She just looked at me like I was stupid and she said she didn't, but it couldn't be that hard. I and walked out. I left and haven't been back since. It is the idiots like her who just watches TV and figures that old car in the barn must be a fortune even though it was not taken care of or cared for over the years like it ought to have been. They are eroding away the affordable cars and jacking up the price of the pristine ones. I don't have a problem with the values rising, just the morons who know nothing about the cars or the hobby who think they do and that their car is worth a fortune regardless of the condition.

I get people talking to me about cars and everything a lot in my store, and most of them always talk about BJ and are like oh yeah I know what you're talking about. STHU, no you don't. The future of the hobby is in sad shape thanks to them.

I think not, people over pay all of the time and it annoys me when I go to look at cars and the car in question is no where near the level of nice at the BJ's auctions yet the seller is wanting virtually what one of those cars "sells" for on BJ. I flew up to Branson, Missouri 2-3 years ago to look at a red '59 with both tops, 283 w/2x4, 4 speed. It belonged to an old ladies husband who had died and he left it on the side of their house. Well over time it sunk in the ground at least 6 inches and I saw it in like 2-3 degree weather when a foot or two of snow on the ground. She wanted around $30K for this car, which was in sad sad shape. I offered her $18K and tried to get her to realize the car is cool but it is nothing like the ones on BJ, and I can find drivers for $40K. Why would anyone buy the '59 for $30K and then have to put $30K into it to make it nice again when you could just buy a driver '58-'62 for $40K and spend less money and time to get the same car? Long story short this lady was hard headed and she was stuck on the "oh well the cars on BJ for for a ton of money. Mine is worth a lot too!" so I walked away. Chances are that '59 is still sitting there rotting away. The car needed EVERYTHING. The frame had rot everywhere, the 283 was in pieces, the body was going to need countless hours in the body shop, the interior had been destroyed by rats, and it was just an overall nightmare. However it is a '59 …but I lost the car due to BJ. So this is just one example of that, I have more….sadly. Anyways I seriously don't appreciate BJ. Maybe you guys might, but I don't. How do you guys feel about BJ?

…oh and I will dig up the photos if the car and post them.

I have buddies that buy at mecum then turn around and run them through BJ and make 5-10K per car.. Its a PITA to do but its easy money for some... The buyers a BJ are not ebay shoppers, they have money to buy whatever they want and they don't care if they over pay. If its the car they want they will pay a lot more than its worth to get it period.
