My only opinion is I would like to see the carburetor AFTER restoration. You may not get exactly what you want.

Date works for you I'd say
Stamping looks correct ....just my opinion

Will it run good ...did person rebuild it correct , sometimes people use wrong parts, like bases .? That's speculative .

It's expensive and you might still need to get it retuned if it doesn't run the engine good.

Sometimes you just gamble

Why would the seller only post pre restoration pictures and not what it looks like now?

I will say that, in the pictures posted, it has the wrong air horn (or top plate).

BTSOM. Seems pointless.

Perhaps the carb is going to be restored after the sale. The description does not actually say that the carb has been restored yet.

I have a sb, so I've never shopped for a bb carb ... price seems high. Unless the carb you want is rare, I'd look for an unrestored one and send it to Lars.

You could also ask the seller if you could buy it unrestored (if that's the case).

Please let us know what happens.

Good luck.

As pictured, the carb is missing parts and pieces. For the money, it's a heckuva gamble to assume the guy will rebuild/restore it correctly... very few people build these carbs right.

That's correct: The carb pictured in the ad does not have the 1970 airhorn: The correct airhorn has an idle vent hole covered by a 2-piece reed valve that's connected to the accel pump lever with a metal wire. All of those parts are missing, and the airhorn does not have the vent hole in it - it's the wrong part...

But I see that none of this bothered somebody who bought the thing... the carb is sold, and it's messed up... good luck to somebody.

Lars

See how much the guy wants for the carb, "as is". If it's not too much ($100 is normal for a Q-jet core; more for a dated carb, I'm sure), buy the carb and send it to Lars for restoration and rebuild. When you get it back, it will be built correctly and work better than factory.

The listing says $1295.00

Even the hard core numbers guys would have a problem with that, I hope.

That is an extremely high price to pay for a carb. these carbs will differ by jets, metering rods, exterior and other interior functions. the base plate and air horn may also not be original along with even the correctly stamped body.

it is hard to find expertise on what is the exact base plate, air horn, linkage setup and what a restamp looks like. different carbs will have different vacumm and venturi ports.

what is exactly correct for your specific date and year is really hard to say. but for 1200+ you want correct in every possible way and I would get agreement from as many people as you can consult before giving up that amount.

Add also to the fact that this would be about a 60+ days old carb for your car.. approaching the extreme date spread that would be acceptable for your points judging.

also looks like it is missing the decell valve.. a rare and expensive part of that carb that you will lose points on.

check this page for extremely limited info on a supposed correct carb

Here's another carb that went for 1/2 the one you are looking at.. it is more correct than the one you are looking at? I dunno...
