Is there a tool available that fits the factory radio control nuts; the nuts with the two opposing notches? In the past I have just used a pair of needle nose pliers but these are not the best to use.
I do not know what to call this type of nut to do a tool search.
Sometimes you can find them in the "generic" tool section of some automotive parts stores. You can also use a set of snap-ring pliers with larger 'pin' type ends to do that job. Or, you can find a junk socket of the right diameter and grind back the outer end, leaving the tabs.
Be nice if I could just use a normal socket, but the two on the radio in my '81 are round with no flat sides, just the two opposite notches....so a normal six sided socket will not work.
I did the search on ebay and looked-over the list; be nice if there were some dimensions given to be sure they were the correct size.
Looks like they just take a deepwell and mill off some of the length leaving a couple of tabs that fit into the slots in the nut. I assume this was an attempt at anti-theft? (Making it more difficult to remove a radio from the dash.)
