I am good on pricing for 68 to 72s. I was just offered a 73 coupe. Not exactly my kind of car, but could be a bargain.
95k miles
2 owners. Current owner bought it in the 80s.
Owner believes he has all paperwork buried in a file somewhere.
Numbers matching driver. White on black. Owner believes original paint and interior, but driver quality. All original body panels, but has added chin strap spoiler.
454 auto with AC. PS and PB.
What is a safe buy price for a car like this assuming it checks out. Not worried about rust, etc as I know what I am looking at. I know that paint can also be 12 to 14k.

Is this a 30k to 35k car restored? Is is a 20k driver?
Can probably buy it at close to 20k.

IMHO, I'm thinking $20K to $25K depending on condition. More if the seats have some life, the carpet looks ok or better and the engine compartment looks decent. Hard to tell without pics. A lot of pics around here, get picked over, by very knowledgeable peeps.
Hi Gary,
I think $20k is a bit too much for a 73 that may, (from your description), need paint and an interior.
Often when a car needs paint it often needs new chrome plating on the bumpers, and other trim too.
The 454 and a/c are certainly a plus, but the a/t may disappoint some people.
I guess it would have to be a pretty special car to make someone step up with $35k.
Regards,
Alan
Sort of what I was thinking. I told him I was a buyer at 15k if it checked out. He will let me know. If he is ok with the price, I will fly up and look at it.
Unfortunately, I don't have pics. I wasn't thinking by any means that this was a 35k car as is...I figured maybe it was worth that nicely restored. Sounds like just a driver as it sits.
I was just in the market for a 73- purchased a L84 4 speed in need of a lot of TLC. So I have been following eBay and Craigslist.
For the mid teens I would expect the paint to be presentable and interior in good shape-no rips or missing pieces. But nearing 100k miles -its probably time for some expensive stuff like the rear wheel bearings-u-joints (halfshafts and driveshaft) not to mention the front control arm bushings and ball joints.
These cars are all over the map as far as pricing- from less than $5k barely running to dreamers in the high 20's.
Just do a completed/sold listing on ebay and you'll get a good idea of what they are actually going for.
