I noticed that the brown looking wire on the left plug of my alternator has come loose. Can someone tell me what its for and do I need to attach it back? Car seems to run fine. Thanks for any help

Since you don't say what year or any other info...
I looked at an online wiring diagram for my 78. Mine goes to console printed circuit, then it googled that connection and it says, "Alternator Indicator". Idiot light on the console on? Is the Alt charging?

not sure. just now found it. battery gauge seems to be fine. mine is a 74 454
