What is the recommended accelerator pump for a Q-Jet here in Southern CA? This is a stock 73 L-48.
I understand this California gas isn't too friendly to certain types / brands of accelerator pumps? Does the color of the rubber cup, on the plunger, have any significance?
We had the same problem with ours. We would have the Q-Jet rebuilt and it would run fine for a few minutes and then start acting up again, it didn't take long. I came to the forum with my question:
I read the other thread mentioned and then googled Cliff Ruggles...ordered my kit and had the carb rebuilt again, it's been fine since.
If I remember correctly, the black rubber swells up with the ethanol fuel but the blue ones don't.

I'v been searching the internet for 2 hours and came up with a couple of articles by Lars.
My conclusion is I have a/the cheap pump.
This pump has been working fine, ( i think ) I just filled up with gas the other day, for the first time in 6 weeks. Doesn't CA change their fuels for different seasons?
As long as the accelerator pump seal is made from a material that is tolerant of ethanol [like Viton], you should be fine. Some folks at NAPA stores know what you need and can get it....some just look at you with that "deer in the headlights" look.
Cliff Ruggles (Cliff's carb repair) sells the accel pump with the Viton seal, if you can't find it anywhere else.
