The '68 C3 did not come with a "Stingray" label on the sides.

But, it...and all the C3 series of cars...still have the 'Stingray' design.

It's just a matter of symantics; and some know-it-alls are just a--ho's.

Your car IS a Stingray (GM said so on the side). If you want to put some distance between yourself and some of the ******* you've been talking to, then it's a Mako Shark bodied Corvette

What to do now? Do you want to drive it or pull it off the road for 2-3 years (more?) and completely redo it? If you're going to do the former, safety first. Make sure the frame is solid then go through the brakes and bushings. At that point you can tackle weekend projects during the nice weather and longer projects after driving season is done. /:\

I think the stingray emblem adds 10HP to any car its attached to. I'm gonna put 4 on my 79 and maybe keep a couple in the glovebox

If I'm talking to somebody who doesn't know much about Corvettes I call my `76 a Stingray. If I'm yakking with Vette guys I call it a C3. If I'm discussing it with my wife I refer to it as a long term investment.

The Stingray fender scripts were used beginning with the 1969 models. They were not used on the 68s.

This is good:

There is great information to gather from this site.
It's okay to be a bit selfish here..take in and welcome the great information that pertains to you, and ignore the rest (including some comments).
Over time, and personal experience, you may feel the desire/need to contribute yourself, from the personal experiences you've had (and that's a good thing).
My first Corvette was a '68, so they will always be special to me.
Your silver convertible, is a very desirable car (whatever you, are anybody else wants to call it)
Welcome to the site.
Are you still out there?

that is a good idea probably tack on a couple to mine and maybe some c7 fishes will keep it from fish tailing.

If I had known that the simple comment would set off such a strong reaction I would have PM'd you off line warning what's going to be said, sooner or later. There's probably half a dozen beaten to death questions about '68s, one of the most common is whether this year car is really a Stingray or not. Your very first post stepped right in a big pile of p**.

On the other hand, the comment about 'not being a stingray' was preceded by a suggestion to send your camera to AA to cure it of the shakes, followed by a . Is that not an obvious suggestion of humour? Or are you just winding us all up with feigned insult?

In any case, if you're serious about restoring this car- I suggest you hurry up and do nothing to it at all until there's a clearly defined plan in place backed by enough cash to see it through to completion.

Be aware that a car that need just about 'everything' for a restoration will easily consume $30-50K and probably 2-3 years time. Craigslist is littered with half completed projects where the owner ran out of money or energy or both.

Best of luck. <- means thumbs up, a nice thing.

Well that's odd, I have a '68, and according to the factory advertisign, it definitely is a Sting Ray. The last line of a magazine ad from GM ends with: "The '68 Corvette Sting Ray. What else would you expect from Chevrolet?"

Just because it doesn't have the emblems doesn't mean that's not what it is. Does it say Chevrolet on it? or GM for that matter?

Hello SYauker - welcome aboard.

You own a '68??? You belong to an elite group. I love '68s - even all their unique one year only parts - that's what makes them special. If you have any questions - you are at the right place. A lot of knowledgeable '68 owners/experts here. Female '68 Vette owner - will definitely get a lot of attention/head turning out on the street. Looking forward to hearing and seeing most posts about your '68. Now get out there and enjoy that beautiful silver '68 convertible. BK3

P.S. My first '68 had the Stingray emblems on the side fenders (put on by the previous owner - looked good - could not care what other people thought - my car), my present '68 doesn't. My next '68 - we will have to wait & see.

As others have said, apologies if anyone has been a little plain or direct on matters that have very little bearing on life in general. The "Stingray" emblem on the passenger side of my car fell off some time ago, so apparently mine is only half cool. Yours has had both added, so you've got a let up on me...

I knew a lot about "car stuff", but very, very little on vintage Corvettes or small block chevy's when I got my car. It has been a trial by fire, to say the least. I've touched every wire and component other the hood and replaced the engine. I'm about to replace the frame and all the work that entails.

There's lots of good advice here. Don't worry about taking the car your own direction. And don't mind the purists.

"What kind of wheels are on your car?"

I believe those are "Strikers", made by Appliance Wheel

I have a 68' Corvette sales folder and it does refer to the new 68 as a Sting Ray, even though the script isn't on the body. All Corvettes are also Chevrolets even though they may not have it on the body. Enjoy your car and don't worry too much about semantics.

Too many people concern themselves with semantics. It's a Corvette. Have fun with it.

The GM sale print material for the 68s went to the presses early in the spring of 67 in order to be available in the dealerships by 68 new model introduction date in September and to get into the various fall issues of the car magazines. A lot of things changed between spring and fall, including dropping the "Stingray". All of the sales material has pix of coupes, (usually a blue blig block), but coupe production was delayed until January.

Welcome to the forum.
I have a 1980 I'm not very familiar with the 68 models.
I thought all C3's were stingrays until 76. If they're laughing at you they can laugh at me too. Hope you get her going.

Here's 2 Chevrolet ads that refer to the 68 as a Sting Ray (although not a Stingray)
