Their lifespan has nothing to do with "mileage". It has more to do with how many times that nut has been removed/reinstalled or 'tweaked'. The Chevy nuts are intentionally deformed so that there is some interference on the fit. That is what keeps them from coming loose. Every time you work with one, some of that 'fit' is worn off. And, after enough adjustments, they get loose and will no longer hold.
I think they should be replaced after 3-4 "uses". But, that is for each user to determine.
{Or, you could just put a jamb nut on top of the 'loose' retaining nut. That will keep it in place.}
