To remove this part? I want to treat this channel with POR-15 and need these out of the way. I removed the two screws and the driver's side moves but it seems as if there is something holding it. I looked in the service manual and assembly manual and it doesn't mention it.

I would say that the visor attachment under the round chrome button might be holding it.

The windshield has to be removed to remove those parts.

If I recall, there is a special tool needed to do it without tearing anything up, and the windshield 'should' be removed because you run a high risk of cracking it.

My apologies for the lack of definitive details, but I do know there are threads on the topic...someone here certainly knows the ins/outs

There is a screw behind the windshield trim. And as mentioned, if you are not very careful the windshield will chip and a crack will form...unfortunately I have seen it happen

Hi V,
There are 2 screws that are accessed from the windshield side of the corner trim.
Very chancy to try to remove them with the windshield in place because of the possibility of nicking the edge of the glass with the screwdriver shaft and starting a crack.
Regards,
Alan

Yes, seriously. It's screwed into the windshield frame BEFORE the glass is installed. Do not attempt to remove them. If the screwdriver doesn't crack the glass (As Alan just said) then the screw itself could.

Just polish them up 'in place'.

I removed those on my 68 and the windshield was left as come from the factory....used fiberglass resin on the inside to waterproof the valley and then painted the area with white enamel.

Probably have photos somewhere on this computer...if I find them tomorrow or so will re post.

I think they were just stuck from all the goop they put on at the factory...do not recall any major operation to remove them...but could have loosend the trim around the windshield...been a few years back now and hard to remember.

While you have it that far....I would remove them and do the job correctly.

Correction on my previous post....found some photos. Once I cleaned out the windshield area under the stainless, I sprayed the area with a rust killer that turned the area black...it looks like I then painted the area yellow with enamel.

I was correct about all the goop holding the two end pieces on....

Maybe someone can chime in here, but I'm almost certain there is a special tool to make this job easier...maybe I'm thinking of the center stainless trim piece...?

Alan, you seem to have perfect pic of every area of the car in certain stages of assembly... you should compile, publish and sell and e-book...could subsidize your hobby...?

Hi,
The typical 'trim' tool may make removing the long thin piece of stainless steel trim from it's clips a bit easier. I worked at prying the trim up using a plastic putty knife or plastic paint scraper
Since the chrome plated corner castings are screwed in place only a screwdriver is needed….. once the windshield is out.
Regards,
Alan

Alan is correct, I do not see how anyone can change them with the windshield in place. The glass covers up the screws and they are probably really rusty and very hard to remove. I had to spray my screws a lot to remove them on my 68. These are very small screws, with fine threads. Lou.
