Getting closer on another milestone on my extended restoration on my 68. I was pulling the interior apart when I got to the old stock radio in the car. Its the original stock Delco AM/FM unit, but it was plugged into this box in the pictures on the passenger side of the car and I do not know what it is or what its for. I think its the heat sink, or an amp. So I have two questions regarding it.
1. As I am going with a newer stereo, will I ever need this box again? I was thinking it would be the perfect spot for my MSD ignition box.
2. Looking on Ebay, I saw a few for sale ranging from 40.00-400.00. Is it worth anything?
Thanks in advance and sorry for the crappy phone pictures of the box. Picture in the middle, other two are the manifold I need to sell.
The '68 AM/FM Stereo system had a separate multiplexer box, which included the 'convector' unit (the final stage of amplification/power transistors). The non-stereo unit just had the 'convector' heat sink with a single power transistor. The "box" in your photo doesn't look like either unit...but it could be the quality of the photo.
If your unit is just AM/FM (non-stereo) and that 'box' consists of a heat sink and single transistor, that is the correct item for your radio.
The convector should be kept with the original radio, should you choose to sell it. The head won't work without it.
