Laird, I actually have both of the intact, however they are grungy and dirty. I'll hook up some 12v to them tomorrow and see if the driver's side works if you want. I think both of them worked, I just replaced them since I was going full-steam at the time. Let me know and I'll check to see whether or not it works if you need me to.
Picked up some 1" X 1/2" U-bar steel today to create a bracket for beneath the main dash area. After quite a bit of trial and error I ended up with what I was looking for - a custom support beneath the main dash. Just have to bolt it all in now.
Also got half the driver's dash covered with carbon fiber - more of a pain in the *** than I thought it would be, but I got it. Started out with enough to do the entire driver's surround - now I need to order more before I can finish it. Nothin's easy...
Learning where to cut/how much angle to cut is a real learning experience!
But it looks good and 10 times stronger than the "sheetmetal stampings" that GM did to hold down production costs.
Just a quick update, I'm still plugging away. Finished the carbon fiber on the driver's dash and center console and got all of the leather on the upper dash. Coming along nicely (I think). On to the door panels next. There are some gaps you may notice - it's just because everything isn't bolted down tight yet.
sometime Life or medical issues gets in the way but some of us find our way back.. I sure hope that is the case here. I took over a year break on mine....
Sorry for the lull fellas, life did indeed get in the way. I needed to put all my focus on my business for a bit to get some stuff where I wanted it. Then I decided to deep-clean my garage so I can work on my car more easily. That alone was a month-long process, and three full dumpsters. I'm a damn packrat and stuff builds up over 14 years...
But I've been back at it for about a month now - slowly. I'm getting the door panels tightened up and properly shaped so I can get the leather on them and getting the brackets built for the center console. I've also been working on mounting the steering column and figuring out the bracket fabrication for it.
I had a few aluminum brackets I built to hold the dash where it needed to be but I'm now switching the one on the driver's side to steel. It just makes more sense to me
having the steering column stabilized with steel brackets rather than aluminum.
I'll be sure to post more often now that I'm getting back into it. Still concentrating quite a bit on my business (something has to pay for my toys...) but I also am forcing myself to step away from it and work on the Vette as often as I can. This project isn't going anywhere except down the road when I get it completed.
very very very nice. Kudos on your work. You inspired me. Where did you find the C7 interior pieces? I read your 11/1/14 entry where they first showed up... I also have a 79 basket case borderline and it got into my head I want to upgrade its interior to a C7... any help kindly appreciated.
Thanks
David.

I bought them off of ebay motors out of two different c7's that were wrecked. It was a process to find everything I needed as they were still fairly new at the time, there is a lot more stuff out there now (last time I looked). Apparently there's always someone willing to wrap 65 grand around a tree...
Thanks for all the kind words! It's getting there slowly.
Yes, I saw the pieces on ebay too, thanks for the tip. Why you say that? Your car project is gonna cost 65 grand!?!?
I don't think its a tree, its the crown jewel of DIY engineering...
