Carb/engine dates
The VERY expensive Rochester QJet I found has a date code 1 day prior to my Flint assembled engine's stamp pad date.
Would it be reasonable to have that carburetor and engine date combination?
Its owner is asking a huge premium for this rare carb, completely restored.
Comments/advice appreciated, need help to make up my mind. And since I know you will ask, I have no plans for judging in the immediate future, but I would like to replace things as they are needed with the correct parts. Car ('70 conv L46)still has many of its original parts, but not everything.
Remember the carbs were installed in St.Louis, not in Flint where the engine was assembled.
The q-jet on my base 71 sb car that was assembled around January 14-15 has a date of January 7th. That Jan 7th date is one week AFTER the engine was assembled in Flint, but 1 week before the car was assembled.
I can't find any definitive info on where the q-jets that were being installed in St.Louis were coming from. I believe at least some q-jets were manufactured at the Rochester plant in Rochester N.Y..
Maybe someone else knows more.
It seems like you may be o.k. if the carb date fits with the car's assembly date.
Regards,
Alan
