Ive had someone in the family pass away and I have the task of selling the vehicles. I was hoping someone here could help me decide on the value of a 69 coupe. I have a 58 and a 65 that Ive been working on for years but I don't have a lot of knowledge about the C3 generation. Im not looking to get every cent out of the car, just the fair value for the estate. If someone could help here are some of the specifics.
Its a very original car that needs a full restoration.
Motor is original, matches the vin and has the code for a manual, ac, 350 HP 350 small block.
Motor is very strong and currently has an edelbrock intake and carb and an MSD distributor. Original parts are in storage.
Tranny shifts well and has a new shifter from corvette central.
Car ran and drove well but has since developed a brake leak.
Trim tag indicates black vinyl interior and Marlboro red paint.
Body seems to be unhit but has been painted and needs to be painted again.
Interior is in rough shape.
Frame is excellent with just a light coat of surface rust. However the windshield frame is rotted and needs to be replaced. Not sure about the rest of the birdcage.
Options are: a/c, power steering, power brakes, tilt and telescope steering wheel.
I hope this is enough, but if anyone can help and needs more info I will get it for you. Thanks,
However the windshield frame is rotted and needs to be replaced.
Replacing the birdcage is the single most difficult job on a C3. I hope you can understand that this kills the interest and value for most enthusiasts as it more or less forces a full frame off resto.
Hi Kris,
This sounds like a very needy car.
Often if the windshield frame is "rotted" the rust continues down the hinge pillars, maybe even into the rocker channels.
From the very limited information you've listed, and without any pictures of the good and bad of the car, I'm thinking that this may be a $4000 or $5000 car, and is only for someone who is looking for a lot of work.
Regards,
Alan

And given that it's a Canadian car- the bircage is most certainly rotted out at the rocker channels
I'd go so far to put it right around 3000, perhaps 4000 since it's a chrome bumper car. Canadian.
Most folks think that a 'fiberglass' car can't have rust problems. Well, that's true for the body...but frame & birdcage (passenger compartment frame/support structure) condition are of utmost importance. If the windshield frame is rotted, so are many other frame structures. And, repairing structural members is more expensive than the gained value you will receive when done.
You have a "parts car" with a decent body. $3-5K....maximum.
If your other family members don't believe you, offer to sell the car to ANY of them for $5K--from which they will get their cut. If you have no takers, tell them to shut up and let you handle it.
Thanks for the replies everyone. Everyone in the family is good with what ever money the car gets. I just needed a baseline to start with.
Its too bad about the birdcage rot. My 65 had 1 bad corner where the windshield meets the door jam. Im repairing it right now so I know how much of a pain it can be!
The frame is mint but I don't know how far the rot goes in the cage.

Actually its originally from Florida. It was brought up about 5 years ago. The story goes ...the guy who owned it left the T-tops off a lot and the interior got several good washings on a regular basis.
