I am working on a 69 fitting the door panels. The lower tab won't fit without trimming the panel, the door pulls don't line up with the holes in the door and you have to drill your own holes in the panel for everything besides the lock. Is this the industry standard for these parts??
I had a similar experience, the top contour was wrong, wouldn't allow the panel to sit on the door properly. Didn't match the contour of the outer panel either. Door lock shaft didn't line up at all. I had to bend the metal insert in the top of the panel to match the original panel. THEN it fit much better.
When I compared the original panel to the new one I could see the dip in the contour of the new panel was shallower than the original.
These were Al Knoch panels. They were bought as part of a package from Al Knoch at Carlisle, early 90's. Had trouble with their seat covers as well. Possible Al Knoch's QA has improved since then. It was pretty poor back then.
Many have said you're usually better off with original parts. This seems to be especially true for interior parts.
The one that are being used are from corvette central, the deluxe model. The top contour is close, the door contour a bit off. Where the top screws go, the front is off by about 1/4", that's easy just have to drill a new hole in the door. The door pulls are off and the bottom front bracket required a good amount of trimming to get it close.
