Now that the strut rods are separated from the hubs I can move to the next step. Its one Ive been dreading since I got the car.
Dont they look scary?
Hi JR73, yes they do look scary. I wanted to restore mine but that area where the long bolt goes through to hold the end of the spring had collapsed, so I had to get new one's. Yours look much better then mine did so hopefully you will be able to restore them without a whole lot of trouble. Good luck, we all will be watching.

Thanks Cav, I was worried about cracking the cast housing (in post 105) when I was driving out the cut off bolt, you cant turn it because of the flat machined into it.
drilling the rivets out of the rotors
cotter pin and nut came off easy and pulled the flange right off
took off the e-brake shoes so I could get at the nuts to remove trailing arm
then put the spindle knocker on the spindle shaft and this is where I stalled. Hammered the crap out of it and she dont budge.
This is when a 20T press comes in handy:
I should have used a spindle knocker because the spindle threads weren't usable after they finally came apart with a big bang. Good luck!
Hey Rbird I have a shop press but it has a 4 ton bottle jack in it. I couldn't think of a way to secure the part in the till I saw your set up. I can make that work. Thanks man

Cool. This folder has more pictures. Don't forget to add your spindle knocker though.
Hi jr73, you did it. That's a big job that you did very well. What is your plan. New everything and then out it back together. Any powder coating or what. Just curious.
Good Job and an easy one.

Well order new bearings and seals, maybe a shim kit. Sandblast these parts and just primer and paint. I will put the spindles in the lathe and check to see if they are straight and if not I'll replace them.
