Default looking for this 68

Hi I posted this in the for sale wanted section but thinking it may get more views here. If this is the wrong place please let me know and I will remove it.
First let me say this car is not stolen I would just like to find and possibly get it back
This is a long shot I know I lost the VIN and hoping some one may recognize it.
It was a 68 roadster as seen 327 SHP engine (350 hp) 3.36 posi rear power windows no a/c power brakes 4 spd. car. Originally Silver with Black vinyl interior. Car was painted Firethorn red a Cadillac color with white pinstrips hand painted around the vents and fuel door. This car was from NH. and then moved to Ma. in the late 70's mid eighties I lost contact to where it went from being in the service. It also had a Motion style Air cleaner Mr. Gasket I believe the bug eye type and had 69 inserts in the vents This car was also part of the Granite State Corvette Club.
This was a unique car back then

I am not sure of that how can you tell? I just knew as a 68 and didn't know a whole lot then.

I think the early cars needed to be pushed around by a bulldozer..

no, just kidding. Maybe it's the far forward position of the door/side mirror. I can't tell much from the pic.

okay looking at 68 facts I guess this was an early 68 it had push buttons to open the doors and the door panels did not have provisions for the vertical handles. It only had the horizontal finger indentation to pull the door close.
The only other thing was PO installed 15x8 wheels

Position of the mirror. A running change on the later 68s moved the mirror further back on the door.

Hi, yes I was going off the position of the driver's side mirror.

All 68's had the pushbutton doors and none had verticle interior handles. Later 68's did have horizontal interior door handles.

Have you inquired with any of the local corvette clubs in the area the car was last seen?

Hello john,
I have a 68. What do mean by horizon interior door handles?
Thanks,
Nelson007

All 68's have a pocket in the door panel. to use to pull the door closed. Later in the year, a color keyed horizontal pull, about 7-8 inches long, was added to the top portion of the panel, to ease closing.

if it lives in NH still you might want to try going to the big show at the Budweiser plant in May. There were a few '68s there this year.

I'll look through my pictures from the show this year and see if I snapped a silver or firethorn '68

Sorry, "horizontal" and "vertical". Darn, my brain wasn't working earlier. Other members have clarified. Sorry if my typos were confusing.

I'm not sure when the change in adding the pulls occurred at the factory. I have heard of dealers installing them on earlier cars as well. My late May 68 car has them.

the car I am looking for had no interior door handles added to it. I would say from the mirror position and the panels at the time being original that this was an early 68 car. I remember putting a new timing set in this car because the original nylon gear broke apart and she jumped timing. If I remember correctly even tweaked a few valves and push rods. That was the first time this engine was ever opened up. This was a low mileage car at the time. Dude sold it at the time because he was extremely frustrated that someone tried to steal it ripped the soft top to gain access and was only able to steal the OEM air cleaner. Believe he had a baby on the way too.

Mike, GM "borrowed" the later 68 inner door handles from the Camaro's. Lou.
