I'm considering updating my 4 speed manual transmission to a 6-speed? This may be a stupid question, but will a T56 6 speed out of a 1990 Corvette bolt up to my 68 c3 427?
I cannot remember if the 90 Corvette uses the Torgue tube and has the trans mounted at the rear or not. If so it will be much more expensive to convert then to get one that is mounted at the rear of the engine like in a Camaro. Also some of the years had lower HP ratings…I think the 94-97 are the better ones. Do a search on the internet and read up on them to confirm. Research is your friend

A good source to ask that question would be Rodney at RPM Transmissions in New Castle Indiana.Acknowledged expert at this stuff. He'll be happy to help you out with advice. Good luck
As pointed out, the 90 C4 had a front mounted ZF, not a very popular trans. Any corvettes with a T56 will be a rear transaxle. You'll want to look into an f body LT-1 T56. Do not try to use the later LS1 T56.
You might be better off with a Tremec 5 speed from one of the aftermarket suppliers. A lot will depend on your rear end ratio and how you use the car.
