Default Question for Alan 71

Alan - I see the photos you post up of your '71, especially specific assemblies, various stages of repair, painting, cleaning, detailing, etc. I love viewing your posts because your car is stunning, but also because you have done such an amazing job of capturing parts and pieces that most of us, either don't take time to photograph, or just don't consider taking photos of the details you do.

So, here is my question - how many photos did you take during your project build - from start to finish? It has to be in the thousands! How many digital cameras did you wear out during your build?

Thanks for sharing all the awesome details that you do.
Adam

Awesome photos and detail. How about building a web page with ALL your stunning photos. It would be a valuable resource for many (early?) C3 owners.

Hi Adam.
There are around 6500 pictures now.
I had a nice Nikon FM when I began in 1994. Since it took film and developing $$, I took relatively few pictures, plus, I had no idea anyone would be interested in seeing them.
I have about 750-800 prints…. 2 shoe boxes full. They're grouped by the NCRS judging sections, Exterior, Interior, Mechanical, and Chassis.
In 2009 I dropped the camera and screwed it up so I bought an ordinary NIKON D40 and added a very good lens. I've taken about 5000 pictures since. They're stored several places and are also grouped in the same manner as the prints
I also have about 750 digital pictures of cars and parts I've taken pictures of at NCRS events.
I can usually find a picture with-in a half a minute. If I take a new picture to answer a question I can usually take it, store it, upload it, and post it in about 3-4 minutes.
I take pictures of whatever work I do on the car now, and since I've continued to work on refining the car there are still new pictures of certain areas of a partly dis-assembled car.
For example, I'm re-plating all the front suspension small parts and fasteners so there are recent pictures of the front suspension completely apart even though there were none of the original front suspension restore.
Also, there are lots of interior pictures now because I re-did the interior in 2011 when the car was Flight Judged.
The car is in my basement so I have easy/quick access to it. I now take a picture of things people have asked about in a post if it's something that doesn't take too much disassembly and I can get a helpful shot of it.
Also, because I did the whole restoration myself, except for the paint and chrome plating, I have a pretty good idea of what's in a 71 sb coupe so can occasionally answer a question.
I'm redoing the wiper bay and everything in it, so there will be new pictures of that whole business. Hopefully they'll be of some help to 68-72 owners.
There you go!
Regards,
Alan

Hi Alan,

I wasn't too far off. I was guessing about 3,000 - 4,000, but you exceeded even that number. Thanks again for sharing your information and photos. I almost always learn some detail that I didn't know.

I really like Pete's idea of the website. It would be a huge help to others.

Thanks Alan.

I'd love to see a pic of your car in the basement. Sadly, My wife says I have to keep mine in the garage.

Many of you only know this great Pumbah here. Alan71 is even more gracious and humble in person!

I think a better question is "What are the best pictures you have taken that have NOT been asked about" YET

I have the pleasure of knowing Alan personally for about eight years now. He truly is a great all around humble person. Always wiling to help and teach. It was also fun to judge his car. The only thing is that's the only time I have seen it. I have been to local car shows and seen him but he never has is car out. I don't think there is a nicer 71 then his

Hi WB,
Thank You!
These are a couple few of my favorites because the show the absolute lunacy that is the headlight system; and they can really only be taken from below with the car mostly together but the radiator out. I'm not sue if i've ever posted them.
Your Friend,
Alan

Curious about the bolts and screws. Do you paint them, or are they coated with some other process?

I have to agree that the headlight system in the C3 cars is insane. I'm certainly no engineer, but I've always felt there should have been a more simplistic (and maybe cheaper?) method of producing these.
