H2 is not a Corvette engine code. Take another look. The suffix should be two alpha characters.

350 hp 327s were optional engines. They are L-79s. There were 9440 of them for 1968.

Hi l-l,
The L-79 engine was a popular engine option choice for 1968 cars.
About 1/3rd of the cars built (around 9440) had it.
Besides it being a very nice small block engine that had decent hp, it was a responsive street engine.
The fact that it only cost $105.35 probably had an influence on it being selected often too. The truth is ALL optional engines were good deals…. a 427/435 for instance cost only $437.10!!!
Does the vin sequence on the pad match the vin of the 68 it's in now?
It value now would be to the owner of the car it came out of if it still exists. Is it the car you have? Once it's away from that car it's pretty much just another one of millions of 327 motors.
Regards,
Alan

Hi Mike,
I had started the post and then stopped for a couple of minutes before I hit submit… sorry for the duplication of info.

That says it all.

[QUOTE=Alan 71;1587926372]Hi l-l,
The truth is ALL optional engines were good deals…. a 427/435 for instance cost only $437.10!!!

A particularly good deal, when ....I'm pretty sure...the AM/FM stereo radio for these early cars was about $400. A particularly high priced option since I've read the quality control on these radios was poor.

Wouldn't it be great to be transported back in time and walk into a Chevy dealer to order a new 68 or 69? What a daydream! And if you ordered a 427/435 with absolutely every possible option, or an L88 with every possible option, the salesman would think you were just throwing your money away.

Loud-lo, How bad is the 68? I hate to see any 68,69 or 70-72 get scrapped. There are four or five 69's rotting away in a auto body lot by me and I want to cry when I pass them. They are just another car to them. Lou.
