How do you keep the headlights up in order to crevice them. The only way I can do it now is having the car running and or lights on and engine off. Both ways seems wrong to me. Any tricks would be great.
Hi cvo,
Under the steering column there is a group of 3 controls.
The one on the left opens the head lights with out pulling the headlight switch. Pull down on the switch.
The one on the right opens the wiper door with out pushing the switch. Pull down on the switch.
The center **** stops the wipers on the windshield so you can service the blades and arms. Turn counter clockwise.

Alan
Please consider buying a GM Chassis Service Manual, an Assembly Instruction Manual, and an Owners Manual. Lot's of help in those 3 publications.

Thanx for that info. You know the guy I bought it from had the car for 7 years and spent some time going over the car with me. I specifically asked him about those switches and he told me the centre **** was to stop the wipers and the two out side things were the screws to keep the **** assembly in place. So glad I have this forum for back up. I will definitely buy all these books you mentioned. Looks I will need them to get rid of the newb in me. Cheers.
My original headlamps can easily be lifted up and locked up by hand.
When the 68 and 70 were new and even later I could use the pull down switch even a day after the car had been driven and the stored vacuum would lift the headlights.
Hi,
Lifting the headlights manually with out disconnecting the large green and red striped hoses on the actuators is hard on the rubber seals on the plenums in the actuators.
You don't want to cause any avoidable problems with those seals since they can't be repaired.

Invest in a troubling shooting guide from Wilcox or Dr. Rebuild. Also purchase a hand held vacuum pump. Follow the instructions and you will find all the vacuum leaks. Nice vette by the way.
