OK , first off ..i dont have a manual for my 82 and yes i did try searching the forum first ....
Heres my problem ......
I replaced my shifter boot this morning and now it will not start , turn over nothing . i have power to my dash n lights etc....i know i mustve " did something " while moving my console cover around , but i do not see anything unplugged ...like a neutral safety switch ...any help on what to look for...
do you have a starter button you can hook up to your starter?, they are real cheap at harbor freight. if your car starts then most likely you did something with the neutral safety switch, OR, just jump it out at the plug under the console for the switch and see if the car starts. I must add, make sure the car is in park
But I'm guessing it has something to do with neutral safety switch.

I can't grasp what else is in there that controls the ability to start the car, figuring you only changed the boot. maybe the shifter just wasn't in the needed spot to start. Anyway it starts and that's a good thing, but not knowing why might leave you in a bind someday.
Thanks guys ...
I ended up pulling my NSS connection loose & cleaning them & it started right up ... Either loose or dirty. , still puzzled it wouldn't start when I tried to jump it
