Default 72 Side Louvers

Does anyone sell reproductions of these? I have searched a lot places and can't find them (might be looking in the wrong place too).

Your title is 72 side louvers, but your picture is of a 70 side louver. Which are you looking for?

1970 - Chrome on the horizontal edges.
1971-72 - Chrome on the horizontal and vertical edges.

I've seen original sets for sale in the NCRS Driveline Magazine.

If used will do there were some off a 70 for sale on eBay yesterday. As I recall the price was reasonable as that is what caught my eye.

Paragon Corvette lists them in their catalog with with a price of "call". That is where I would start as they should know.

Hi,
The side grills, (both the 70, and the 71-72 style), aren't being reproduced.
That's why used grills in good condition and with good chrome plating bring such serious money, (especially the 70 grills).
Generally when the Paragon catalogue says "call" they're selling used or reconditioned parts and the availability varies so you need to check to see what's available currently.
Regards,
Alan

Hi,
There really isn't anything to 'paint' on the exposed chrome surfaces that will look like chrome.
Silver paint will look like silver paint. So the choice is up to you.
What the rest of the exterior looks like, and what your budget is, will have an effect on whether the silver paint is satisfactory or not.
The grills can have the chrome plating re-done or you can look for a used pair that have better chrome plating than yours.
Regards,
Alan

Also, if you have a set that needs replating...there's a problem. The side quarter panel grilles are an aluminum alloy..I'm pretty sure about this. They are not pot metal (zinc, tin). Replating the aluminum alloy requires a specialty replating service.

The 70 and up quarter panel grills and the 70 and up turn signal/running light grill under the bumper are very difficult to find today. I have all this stuff for my 70, but it needs rechroming...an expensive thing since all this stuff is really an aluminum alloy. I have all the hardware to convert my 70 to a 69 front end. This is a low cost option for me.

If the chrome edges are worn thru (no chrome left), you could put silver-leaf on those edges, then put a good, tough clearcoat over them. It won't look like shiny chrome...but it will look a lot better than chrome paint.

After that, you can mask off those edges with the correct width stripe-tape; then prime the rest and paint with body color. Clearcoat ALL of it, if that is what you have on the car.
