I was wondering the same thing. The write up in one article said both passengers were ejected, no seatbelts on?
I also looked at a bunch of the photos from multiple angles and no guardrails on either side of the highway where it went off.
Having driven a C3 since 1987 to go off road like this has two equally tragic causes:
SUV clipped her and spun her out
She swerved and gassed it and lost it.
Such a shame.
