I was looking to replace my engine ground strap but none of the online vendors seem to have the one I took off. So I'm trying to decide if mine is correct, and if so, where do I get another like it?
Here's what mine looks like. It's about 7/8" wide and is silver colored, not copper like most I see with the vendors.
Correct or not? Where's a replacement? Most say they are a radio ground, but this can't be a radio ground strap can it?
It was on the passenger side engine mount bolt going to the engine frame mount.
What year? My 69's engine ground cable is round, insulated and goes from the starter bracket to the frame at the pass side motor mount.
Check Lectric Limited part GC6871
Rick
It's a 71 and I'm sure Bubba has been in here because I had 2 different styled engine mounts, so I assume nothing is correct.
I checked my AIM, before somebody tells me to, and I see this:
GM #6295176.
That little bracket shown was nowhere to be found on my engine. Can I still just connect the frame engine mount and the engine mount bracket with my ground strap? I mean, it doesn't have to be exactly at that spot does it?
DocRebuild had this to say for the $32.50 replacement part:
1968-1971 Corvette Starter to Engine Ground Cable Replaces GM 6295176
CAVEAT EMPTOR: this cable mounts between the engine block starter brace & the motor mount support horn on the frame. 1968 1969 1970 1971

That's an aftermarket parts store strap i got one to ground tranny and block. My buddy had it on his mustang told me they work good. But my other grounds are insulated and in those positions for my 76
My starter bracket was missing too but the cable was bolted to the engine block in the hole meant for the starter bracket. The factory method really is better since the ground is solid to the starter/engine block/frame. The starter bracket is often missing but is pretty important too imo especially if the engine has high compression. Just my 2cents, Rick
So it looks like the Dart SHP block I'm putting in has the same bolt hole for the starter brace. I'm going to be using an aftermarket starter, those don't use a brace do they?
Here's the correct strap from LectricLimited GC6871:
Or I can replace what was already there with what looks to be the same one Bubba had used from Summit at the same location (Engine mount bolt to mount frame bolt): http://www.summitracing.com/parts/rfw-gc12/overview/

But do the aftermarket mini-starters use the same brace?
My mini starter setup couldn't use the brace. I had to use a shorter bolt to mount the ground cable to the block. The power to the starter will be limited by the ground strap; the OEM is a good choice. Nice choice on the block!
There aren't many Bubba's left on this car, I hope this is the last one. I thought it seemed a bit off to me when I looked at it after removal, especially when it came time to try and get a replacement from all of the vendors and couldn't find it, then I knew...Bubba. Though by Bubba's standards, this was pretty harmless.
I appreciate all the help, I think I've made my decision and will probably go with the OEM style.
