Default C3 hardtops

Are c3 hardtops serial numbered to each car or can they be moved between cars?

They were optional and not connected to any specific car. There is no VIN information on them. They can be swapped between model years. For judging purposes, there are minor differences which could save a point or two.

The only thing I can think of besides what Mike mentioned are the date codes on the glass.

Date codes on the headliners and sail panel liners too.

True, but you cannot see the dates with the panels installed and the dates are not judged.

Ditto for the back glass. Unless you intend to have the car judged, the date code doesn't mean much.

Would it state on the build sheet weather it was a colour matched hard top or vinyl covered? Sorry for the high jack.

Hi c,
The build sheet and window sticker would list 2 options; one for the hardtop and another for the vinyl covering. CO7 and CO8.
Regards,
Alan

Just wondering - from the factory - did some C3 convertibles come equipped with a CO7 and no CO5 installed??? Thanks BK3

My money says No, but that's only a hunch. For C1 and C2 with C07, you could delete the folding top and get a credit on the invoice. I'm not sure that practice continued with C3.

I have yet to see a C3 tank sticker or invoice with C05 delete.

Hello Mike - hope all is well with you.

Thanks for the reply. I always wondered if my '68 did not come with a folding top as the RPO CO5 option was not on the tank sticker. Tank sticker shows the hard top but no folding top. Now I know. Thanks for your help, take care.

Sorry, OP for hijacking your thread.

My '68 has the hardtop w/o vinyl material.

Have no tank sticker, but do have the salesman's sales copy that lists the options.

The hardtops, with the inner trim removed, will have hand-written markings of dates on the fiberglass itself:

The trim pieces will also have ink stamped dates, but each piece will have its own date:

And of course theres the glass date code which is the only one you can see with the top assembled:

I can't speak for NCRS, but I had a guy who wanted to buy my top and he was willing to travel a long way to pick it up... but only if the date was before his car's assembly date!
