For my C3's...manual tranny. I have TKO600 five speeds in both. But, these cars are not DD's. For driving to the grocery store, to work, to the hardware store, an automatic is just fine. For my C6 2008, my wife insisted on an automatic. OK, automatic. However, my wife isn't comfortable driving the C6..she can't see over the hood and it has too much power for her. I shouldn't have got a manual, well anyhow for the C6 I often use the paddle shifters which make up for the loss of a manual tranny. From what I've read, the new computer controlled transmissions just really make the manual/auto transmission question irrelevant. They have the convenience of auto trannies, and have the crisp controlability of a manual.
Auto for 3 reasons:
1-I drag race
2-I really stink at shifting a manual when I drag race
3-I don't want to manual shift anytime, ever
.....Yes, and to those racers who prefer a manual, here's reason number 4- No matter how well you think you can "power shift", you can never outshift my auto that jumps to the next gear!

Manual for me. 82 and 86 were auto, the rest were manuals. Just didn't enjoy the autos as much. Loved the 6sp in my 94,99,05. Manual bonus for me- Mrs. less likely to drive it.

Up until very recently, manual transmission cars always outran automatics in the 1/4.
Just saw this thread, my answer is stick. I love the involvement of a stick, the right now feel of a clutch engagement. I've drag raced an auto equipped '64 GTO and that's right for that, but everything else needs a stick. Granted, my wife's cars are autos, but all my street cars are sticks.
There is nothing like unloading a 427 and riding it out. Can't wait to feel that with my 409.
A bad *** auto, with a good stall converter is a far cry from a stock turbo 350. It ain't no slush box anymore. The '74 'Short & Wide' with 383 stroker we just wrapped up is a friggin blast to drive! That truck can do easy burnouts just barely feathering it and it hooks up hard! So don't y'all be lumping em all together now!
PS: for those that were with me on the Solvang run, I remember the chuckles I got, after pulling over with everybody else. We just got done with ten miles of crawling through bumper to bumper traffic with a Borg Warner Super T-10. There I was, outside of the car and shaking that left leg out like a poor hooker on the side of the road, but no women stopped. In fact they accelerated quickly away!
Even Hollywood movie producers they prefer manual vettes I haven seen a movie yet where the pursued vette is an automatic.
why they represent an stick shift vette ?
It's simple because sticks on the floor are hotter and movie watcher they like feel the adrenaline watching and listening to the shifting of gears.regardles watchers they just drive automatics
I just drive vettes with stick shift, if one day I would drive an automatic it is because something really bad. .... but really bad happened to me lol
I also prefer stick in the Vette. The car is "old school" and shifting a standard trans (tho they aren't standard anymore) is an old school skill I like to have in my "tool box". I like to be able to do things that many people can not do. Shoot a gun well, ride a motorcycle, fix just about anything. When the S.H.T.F. and the world goes "Road Warrior" I'm ready.
Gal here. Have a '69 L46 and 2012 LS3 - both manual. I initially kept my mind open when searching for my C3 since the majority of C3's I found in good condition were automatics. After driving a couple of automatic C3s, I decided I had to find a manual and stopped looking at automatics. Solely personal preference in driving experience.

Smart girl...AND If You're A Blond It's A PLUS LOL
I'm looking forward to buy me a 2014 C7 of course manual but my wife does not drive manual and she wants me to buy it auto for her to drive too.
there's no way would but the 2014 auto.
Besides my L46 only came with a 4 speed, automatic wasn't an option.
Wow... learn something new everyday. I own an L46 and never realized until now it was only available in a manual. Just curious.... what was GM's reasoning behind the 4-speed only?
